🍂 Why Autumn is the Perfect Planting Season

Autumn is the ideal season for planting—absolutely everything!

What if this were the perfect opportunity to integrate drought-resistant plants?
That way, your garden will remain beautiful and vibrant, no matter what the weather brings.

Perennials planted in autumn benefit from several months to develop a strong root system before the following summer arrives. Deep, well-established roots allow them to better withstand water scarcity and intense heat—and to flourish from the first days of spring.

Many of the perennials we offer here have evergreen foliage, which will provide structure and visual interest to the garden even during the cold winter rains.

And don't forget mulching (wood chips, miscanthus, etc.): a simple but effective gesture to protect the soil, retain moisture, and nourish underground life. A small effort for a great benefit—with absolutely no downside.

🌱 Autumn Garden: Planting Tips

No matter what you're planting, it's generally recommended to do so in spring or autumn, when temperatures are cooler and water is more readily available in the soil.

Essential planting steps:

  • Garden in the evening → Temperatures will be cooler, and both you and the plants will be grateful
  • 💧 Water the plant in its pot while you dig the hole
  • Dig a proper hole → Generally 2-3 times wider than the root ball, with the base of the leaves slightly below ground level—this allows water to flow down to the roots. Think bowl-shaped rather than pyramid-shaped
  • 💧 Water the plant after transplanting
  • Cover the planted area with dry grass, wood chips, then more dry grass and wood chips (layered mulch)
  • 💧 Water again

Pro tip: Autumn planting gives roots months to establish before summer stress, resulting in healthier, more resilient plants that require less water and care.
