Kalanchoe laetivirens - Aranto

Kalanchoe laetivirens, Aranto, is a species of Kalanchoe with large grey-green leaves and thousands of pups along their broad edges.

As a succulent, the Kalanchoe have an optimized relationship with both the sun and water : lots of the first and little of the second.
These plants are ideal for areas of your garden that don't get a lot of water - or parts of your apartment that you forget to water :)
Allowing the soil to dry out between watering is great, allowing the soil to become a powder between waterings is too much.

If you replant the Kalanchoe in a windowsill, the pups will sprout on their own and before you know it, you'll have a Kalanchoe zoo!

They grow in bunches, constantly dropping their pups , forming large colonies and capable of taking over entire garden boxes and indoor planters. When they are many, they begin to look like a pre-historic forest. Something out of Jurassic Park maybe.

It's great, highly recommend. Sold as small plants as they do NOT like to travel and will easily break.

    Gardening Tips

The flowering is dependent on the climate, though largely at the beginning of spring in temperate climates.

The Kalanchoe, as succulents, are absolutely NOT frost-tolerant. Especially if you live in an area with high humidity, they will perish.

    The Botany
    The Myth

A Kalanchoe species was one of the first plants to be sent into space in 1979, on a resupply to the Soviet Salyut 1 space station.

    Laetivirens which means "lushly green".
