Helichrysum orientale is a perennial plant with soft, gray ash foliage that brings wonder to a garden even in the coldest months of winter.

The foliage is ever green (or gray) and is non fragrant - contrary to Helichrysum italicum which is said to smell like curry.
The flowers are small and yellow and produce quite a stunning contrast in early spring against the grey clouds of leaves.
The distinction is that this Grey Lady is evergreen - maintaining it's bright foliage even in the depths of winter.

The Botany
The Myth

The natural flowers are commonly used for garlands for the dead, or plants dyed black are mixed with the yellow ones.

Given the palor of the leaves, the plant can also be dyed green or orange-red, and used for bouquets or other creative projects.
