Helichrysum italicum, known as the Curry Plant or l'Immortelle, is an evergreen grey-leaved perennial that will bring a distinctly Mediterranean odor to your windowsill or garden.

The flowers - small and yellow bring a sharp contrast to the grey foliage.
The name of the plant itself attempts to describe them (ἥλιος = helios, sun and χρῡσός = chrysos, gold in Ancient Greek.... so SunGold or GoldSun).
The flowers also hold their form for a long time, even in a bouquet - perhas this is the origin of the "Immortelle" nickname?

Do not hesitate to cut the plant back after flowering as it can start to lose shape and begin to sprawl.

The Tales:

It is called the "curry plant" because it sort of, somewhat is reminiscent of curry powder, but it really has nothing to do with either the curry tree nor is it used as masala for curry dishes.

It has an aroma that is more akin to the sages and the wormwoods - perfect for any Mediterranean dish, especially fish.

It is often steam distilled to produce a yellow-reddish essential oil that is popular in fragrances for its unique scent - best described as herbaceous, sweet, and honey-like.
