Hydrangea quercifolia 'Snow Queen'
Hydrangea quercifolia 'Snow Queen' is an oakleaf hydrangea valued for its large, deeply lobed foliage and upright, cone-shaped flower panicles that open creamy white before aging to a soft antique pink.
More drought tolerant than most hydrangeas once established, it still performs best with consistent moisture and appreciates rich, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Deep planting with thick layers of mulch can also do the trick if you are not if a moist-soil area.
Part shade to filtered sun suits it well, especially in hotter climates, where some afternoon protection helps preserve flower colour and prevent leaf scorch. In autumn, the bold foliage turns deep burgundy-red, adding a second season of interest after flowering.
