Eucalyptus gunnii
Eucalyptus gunnii is a fast-growing, vigorous Eucalyptus with a broad columnar habit, decorative bark, and evergreen grey-blue foliage that releases an aromatic scent when crushed. The juvenile leaves are small and rounded, while the mature leaves become longer and more elongated.
This species thrives in full sun and prefers slightly acidic soils, ideally with some moisture and not excessively dry conditions. It is one of the hardiest eucalyptus species: once well established, its rootstock can withstand temperatures down to around -18°C (0°F) during brief cold spells.
Its height can be controlled and a dense, bushy shape maintained by cutting back all stems hard in late winter. This pruning method also encourages attractive new growth and a fuller, more compact form.
